As if I don't have enough on my plate being the mother of four children 8 and under, being on the core team of 6 people who are starting a church in less than a month, being the PTC President for a school that hasn't even opened yet, I thought I should do one more thing!
Well, that's not exactly how it happened... I just registered Laughing Son for football. There were signs there for Cheerleading and both of my girls are really into everything cheer right now. So I signed them up! They can cheer together for their brother's team. And since Jethro doesn't want to coach football, I can be their cheer coach! What a great idea!! NOT!
Since I'm the first mom to sign up to coach, they ask me to be the Cheer Director.. (I'm told, "You get to assign the teams, the practice times and days and you have to go to a meeting once per month" that's it!) HA! I also asked about coaching, "Do I have to teach cheers?" "No! we have some high school cheerleaders come in and teach the cheers... you're just their sponsor, so to speak." HA!! I'm so cut out for the Director part... I'm an administrator.. I'm a do-er... I like to start things (this is only the second year our organization has participated with the Pop Warner franschise, so nobody really knows anything and there are no established perameters yet... right up my alley!) DOUBLE HA!!!
I am actually enjoying for the most part what I'm doing... I love the girls on my squad.. they're the best.. they all want to be here and they work hard and we're having fun! The director part is at times frustrating, but I'm getting it done... Due to regulations, Princess Kickapoo and Drama Queen are on different squads, but Drama Queen's squad gets to cheer for Laughing Son's games.. that's cool. Princess Kickapoo is a quality time person (5 Love Languages of Children) so that I'm her coach is great! We are trying to find another person, who has actually been a cheerleader before, to be the squad's HEAD coach (be praying!). That would be better since they'll remember cheers from HS or Jr HS... I spent about 4 hours yesterday working on putting together a cheer and then trying to memorize it for the girls! ouch!!
We do have a HS cheerleader, but she must take a real J-O-B soon to pay for car insurance, so her days with us are numbered....
As for the girls, they are loving it!! They practice their cheers all over the house.. they say them in their sleep.. They say them so much that Jethro actuall knows the words to some of them now and even got one stuck in his head all weekend! :o)
And Laughing Son... he's really digging football.... "except for laps." He comes home every night (and I do mean every night!.. the first 2 weeks he had practice Monday -Friday from 6 -8 pm... tehy have to do 20 hours of conditioning before they can officially start practicing! ouch!) anyway, he tells us how much he loves football, but everytime he says it, he ends it with "except for laps." it's very cute... And regardless if he likes running laps or not, he's on a team with 5, 6 and 7 year olds and he finishes 4th or 5th everytime...Not too shabby!
Games start September 6th.. Go Buffs!
