IS came home from school this week telling me that she had to do a book report on a non-fiction book, like a book about a person, she said. I told her that should be fun and then I asked if she knew about whom she would like to read. She immediately replied that she wanted to do her report on Jesus. Cool! that is just too entirely cool!
Speaking of her, IS broke her arm. for some of you this is old news.. almost a month old! Yikes! for those others, sorry.. IS fell off of the playscape in our backyard and just happened to land just right! OUCH!! She came running in the house and by the way she was hollering, I knew she was really hurt... She was wearing long sleeves and I couldn't see her arm but she was cradling her left hand and telling me that it hurt. I asked her if a bee stung her and she said, "No, I fell!"
I pulled up her sleeve and her left forearm was in a v shape (if you don't believe me, check out the X-Ray).. I told her that she had broken her arm and that we needed to go to the hospital. From that point on, as I rounded up all of my kids and the neighbor kids who were visiting, found everyone's shoes, got books for the kids to read in the ER, and finally left a note for Dad to tell him where we were... all that time, she never cried. In the hospital and 3 hours later before it was set, she never cried! When they came to put in an IV, then she freaked! but other than that, she never cried. I have to tell ya, that if I were looking down on my arm and seeing it bent like a V, I would have been freaking way out!!!
Turns out she broke both her radius and her ulna.. nice clean breaks, no wimpy fractures here!
There was a Dr on duty that night who had studied under an orthopedic surgeon and she was able to set her bones beautifully (sleeping picture is still in the hospital after bones were set)... IS has since been to the Orthopedic Surgeon 3 times getting x-rays and finally, yesterday, she got her cast! See, the Dr couldn't remove the original splint since both of her bones were broken. Her arm would have had no support and it would have been all floppy and it would have needed to be reset! She is doing great! She has never complained about it.. in fact, she has been very positive. In the car on the way to the ER she told me, "At least it's my left arm so I can still write!"
She was so excited about getting her "real" cast that counted down the days! Even her teacher knew Friday was the big day! Ha!! Now she's carrying around a marker so that everyone can sign her cast. What fun to have such a wonderful outlook on things. It will serve her well later in life.
On a more personal note, I am fighting with a bit of frustration.. I have been working my rear off, working out 2 and even 3 times a day (mainly to burn off calories, but some machines at the gym to tone up my legs). In addition to that I have cut my calories to 450-700 daily.. I mean I am eating very little but doing so very often..just like all the doctors say is the thing to do. I did it last week in an effort to shrink the size of my tummy- it's supposed to be only as large as your fist! anyway, after all that, 2 weeks later all I have to show for it .. I've GAINED 2 pounds!!! argh!! Oh well, I'm keeping on keeping on.. but I could use your prayers!
